As the summer transfer window continues to approach, the end of Cunha’s Wolves career may well be on the horizon. The impressive forward opted to stay put in the January transfer window, but not without signing a new contract which includes a reported release clause worth £62m. Igniting rumours ever since putting pen to paper, the Brazilian is certainly one to watch this summer.

With the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal reportedly interested in signing Cunha, there’s no doubt that Wolves face quite the battle if they want to keep hold of their star man this summer in what is likely to deal Vitor Pereira a major blow.

Nonetheless, those in the Midlands may be left with no choice but to seek reinforcements in place of the forward and that could see them welcome a future star this summer.

According to Nosso Palestra, Wolves are now preparing a £5m move to sign Riquelme Fillipi from Palmeiras this summer, as they attempt to sign their next top Brazilian striker.

At youth level, the 18-year-old has been a goalscoring machine throughout the current campaign – scoring 11 goals in just nine games in all competitions. Now, just as Cunha did in 2017, the young striker could swap Brazil in favour of European football, perhaps even replacing the Wolves star in doing so.

"Great" Fillipi could become Cunha heir

Swapping one Brazilian forward at the peak of his powers for one who is on the rise and ready to burst into life, Wolves could sign an ideal solution for their Cunha woes in Fillipi. Like the former Atletico Madrid man, the teenager has the versatility to play across the frontline at both left and right-wing – stealing the show in both positions at youth level.

Scoring 11 goals so far this season, the Palmeiras forward has earned impressive praise from the likes of Nathan Joyes. The South American football expert described Fillipi as “excellent in the box” at the beginning of the year.

A talent full of potential just as Cunha once was in South America, Fillipi could follow his countryman’s rise by completing a move to Wolves this summer to become the heir to his Molineux throne.

Whether Wolves’ pending £5m bid proves to be successful remains to be seen, but the Palmeiras gem is certainly one to keep an eye on.

In fact, alongside the Lilywhites, the report has revealed that North London rivals Arsenal, as well as Newcastle United, Liverpool and Bournemouth, have made contact and expressed their interest in signing the goalscoring wideman.

Fortunately, while the number of interested parties is far from ideal, the Dutch giants reportedly value the 24-year-old maestro at just €30m, which comes out to about £25m.

It could still be a difficult transfer to get over the line, but with how well Paixão has played this season, it’s one Spurs should fight for, especially as he could be the perfect upgrade on Son.

How Paixão compares to Son

Now, when we get down to it, there are two key areas in which Paixão has an advantage over Son, and the first is longevity.

By this, we mean the simple fact that, at 24 years old, the Brazilian is going to be able to play at the very highest level for far longer than the South Korean will be, especially in the high-intensity system Postecoglou wants to implement.

The second area where the Feyenoord star, whom U23 scout Antonio Mango has described as having a real “eye for goal”, has the edge is raw output.

For example, in 38 appearances this season, totalling 3176 minutes, the “quality” Macapá-born winger, as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists.

That means he is currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.46 games, or every 122.15 minutes, which is an undeniably impressive level of output.

In contrast, the former Bayer Leverkusen ace has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 40 appearances, totalling 2835 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.81 games, or every 128.86 minutes.

While that’s still an impressive level of productivity from the Chuncheon-born icon, it’s still less than his potential competition and, given where he is in his career, we’d be stunned if he was able to match it again next year.

Ultimately, Son is undeniably a modern-day great for both Spurs and the Premier League as a whole, but he is much nearer the end of his career than the start, and while he’s plying his trade in a non-top five league at the moment, Paixão looks to have the raw ingredients to be an effective upgrade on the 32-year-old.

Therefore, Levy and Co should do what they can to bring him to N17 before one of their rivals beat them to his signature.

وأدلى تيبو كورتوا بتصريحات قوية تجاه منتقدي كأس العالم للأندية، الذين يرون أنها بطولة دون المستوى، خاصة أنها تأتي في توقيت من المفترض أن يتحصل اللاعبون خلاله على فترات راحة قبل بداية الموسم الجديد.

As things stand, the Lilywhites will not be playing in Europe next season, given they are languishing in 14th in the Premier League, with just 34 points to their name.

Well, according to a report from Pete O’Rourke for Football Insider, the Lilywhites ‘are leading the race’ to sign Gomes on a free this summer. This move comes as part of a ‘planning a potential midfield overhaul’ from Postecoglou over the summer.

One of the teams thought to be interested in signing Gomes at one stage was Manchester United, from which Gomes is an academy graduate.

However, the Red Devils are not thought to be in the running, as per the report. Instead, the North Londoners could face competition from clubs across Europe, from the likes of France, Spain and Germany, should they wish to sign Gomes.

Why Gomes could be Spurs' own Rice

Despite being just 24 years of age, Gomes has been in and around professional football since 2017. As a 16-year-old, he made his debut for Man United, the youngest player in 64 years to achieve the feat, beating the record held by the great Duncan Edwards.

After leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2020, the Englishman joined Lille. He became an established member of their first team the year after joining, following a loan at Portuguese side Boavista.

In total, the versatile midfielder has played 134 times for the club, scoring ten goals and grabbing 19 assists. That included eight Ligue 1 assists last term, where he excelled in a number-eight role.

He is also capable of playing as a number ten and a number six, offering great versatility for Spurs’ midfield should he make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 24-year-old has already made a great impact for England. Despite not being included by Thomas Tuchel in his first squad during the recent international break, he thrived under interim boss Lee Carsley.

Gomes grabbed a brilliant assist for Jack Grealish against Finland, showing composure under pressure and sliding the Manchester City winger in behind with a lovely reverse pass.

If Spurs sign Gomes, he could become their very own verison of Declan Rice. The Arsenal star was described as “a wonderful midfield player” by Jamie Carragher in February and has certainly made a big impact in his 91 Gunners appearances so far.

Indeed, there are some differences between Rice and Gomes, notably in their physicality. Standing at just 5 foot 6 the Lille star is more lightweight than the 6 foot 2 Arsenal number 41.

However, Gomes makes up for it with his ability on the ball. He is extremely press-resistant and able to evade tackles with relative ease.

Indeed, he can certainly be compared to Rice statistically on FBref, with the pair noted as similar players in Europe’s top five leagues, among their fellow midfielders.

Per 90 minutes, the former Man United star averages 5.98 progressive passes, compared to 6.21 for Rice. He also averages 0.61 successful take-ons, with Rice averaging just 0.42 per game.

As football statistician Statman Dave explained, Gomes is an “unbelievably gifted” player. He has an abundance of technical quality, and whilst he is smaller than some midfielders, he still possesses the ability to break up play, as the stats show.
