Sunderland fans love co-owner’s transfer comments

Loads of Sunderland fans have been reacting to transfer comments from co-owner Charlie Methven, as the new leadership is really starting to strut its stuff.

Sunderland got off to just about the best possible start last weekend, coming from behind to grab their first competitive win under Jack Ross.

With the exception of smashing four or five goals in, winning through a late goal is the absolute best confidence booster going into the season, and Methven’s latest comments have got fans feeling even better.

“It was terrible. Fear, delusion, denial, lack of direction, confusion, the lot. Stewart and I had never come across such a broken business. “, the co-owner said of the club’s condition when he and Stewart Donald arrived.

“The business plan is straightforward: increase revenues and reduce costs until we reach sustainability. It really is that simple,” he continued.

He went on to explain that they will not simply splash cash around to rush the process back to the Premier League, and that’s exactly what fans want to hear.

Far too long the Black Cats suffered under the short-sighted leadership of Ellis Short, and a controlled, measured approach will ensure long-term success.

Ross and the owners have made tons of signings already this summer, and if the opening day win was anything to go by, Donald and Methven might just be the best thing to happen to the club in years.

West Ham should have kept Sead Haksabanovic around the first-team

West Ham have continued their summer spending right until the very end of the transfer window, leaving them in a great position to beat their 13th place finish from last season.

A number of top level players have arrived at the London Stadium as well as Premier League-winning boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The board have shown their true ambition for the squad with arrivals but there is potential for the club to regret letting Sead Haksabanovic leave.

The Swedish-born playmaker featured in a few games for the first team last season, impressing with a number of neat touches and off the ball movement.

However now after a year with the club, it’s reported that Haksabanovic wanted more involvement, so moved out on loan.

This could be a bad move for West Ham considering their need for someone to play in the attacking midfielder role, which Manuel Lanzini normally fulfils.

After being one of the most surprising stars during West Ham’s pre-season, it was a shame to see another youth prodigy being shipped out on-loan instead of being tested in the first team.

The 18-year-old has shown glimpses of magic and even if he wasn’t going to start in the first team, the option of Haksabanovic off the bench could have been a good one for West Ham, which offers variety and presents the opposition with a new challenge.

Considering Manuel Lanzini is injured and ruled out of action until next year, Haksabanovic could have provided cover in the Argentinian’s absence. Of course, his talent may not yet be up to Lanzini’s standard but the only way to get better is through practice, which Haksabanovic will now have to wait at least another year for.

Arsenal must plot a move for unsettled Rabiot

According to L’Equipe, PSG’s Adrien Rabiot has refused a new contract offer from the club and could leave on a free transfer next summer.

What’s the story?

The French midfielder was a regular in the PSG midfield last season, making 27 starts (and 33 appearances overall) across the course of the Ligue 1 campaign. However, with the likes of Marco Verratti, Julian Draxler and Giovani Lo Celso all vying for minutes in the centre of the park for the French giants, Rabiot could conceivably see his game time lessen this time around.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255898″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Arsenal’s opening fixtures for the 201819 Premier League season”]

With the 23-year-old reluctant to sign a new contract and tie his future down at the Parc des Princes, he leaves his employers in an awkward situation. With less than 12-months left to run on his current deal, Rabiot could leave the club as a free agent next summer.

Even a club as wealthy as PSG would hate to miss out on a fee in exchange for a player valued at £45 million by Transfermarkt. If the capital club can’t convince Rabiot to agree to new terms, they may have to consider selling him for a cut price fee in January.

Arsenal ought to be alive to this possibility and ex-PSG boss Unai Emery should be keen to reunite with his old charge in North London.

A perfect match?

Emery began work on remoulding the Gunners’ midfield contingent to suit his own needs this summer. The restructuring began with the release of Jack Wilshere and the signings of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

However, the midfield at the Emirates Stadium has a long way to go before it’ll feel entirely Emery’s own. Bringing in a player such as Rabiot, who Emery has worked with successfully before, would move this process along and he could prove to be the impressive Guendouzi’s long-term midfield partner.

The chance to sign such a talented young midfielder in a cut price deal or on a pre-contract agreement isn’t one that Arsenal can afford to miss.

Yannick Bolasie was a signing that Middlesbrough would have liked, but not needed

According to The Birmingham Mail, it looks as though Middlesbrough are to miss out on signing Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, with Aston Villa hijacking the deal.

This may feel like a bitter blow to The Boro, and possibly to manager Tony Pulis, but this should not trouble the club too much. While the Congolese speedster would be a great addition to the club, they are still in a very good place.

Middlesbrough currently sit in second place in the Premier League table, and are unbeaten thus far this season. But what will please Pulis the most is the current form of attacking trio, Stewart Downing, Britt Assombalonga, and Martin Braithwaite, with six goals between them already this season.

It’s the versatility of these attackers that means that they must stay in the side. Braithwaite can be deployed as a winger or a striker, meaning Pulis can be flexible with his formation. Likewise, Downing can play as a winger, or deeper in the field, shown when the manager opted to play two strikers against Birmingham, meaning Downing dropped to play as a left-sided midfielder.

To then be able to bring Ashley Fletcher from the bench shows the strength in depth that Middlesbrough have, making them solid contenders to secure promotion this season.

So, while Bolasie (valued at £16.2m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) would be a great addition to the side, it isn’t strictly necessary. He may have possibly usurped one of the three attackers at the club as the season progressed, but for now Pulis seems set on a formula that is serving him very well. There’s is no need to change things.

With such a focus on Championship clubs securing a loan signing before the end of the transfer window, Tony Pulis can still be very satisfied with the squad he has.

HYS: Have Everton made a mistake with Sandro?

Sandro Ramirez looks to be on the brink of an early exit from Everton, but with depth up front already a problem, could it be a mistake from Marco Silva and Marcel Brands?

According to Diario Vasco, Sandro is set to fly out to Spain for before completing a move to Real Sociedad.

The report claims the Toffees have now sanctioned the striker’s exit, and that he will have a medical with the La Liga outfit on Thursday.

The deal is expected to be a one-year loan, but with the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

The good news is that Ademola Lookman is now expected to stay at the club as Sports Witness reports only one of them would be allowed to leave, but could it still be a mistake to let Sandro go?

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”285457″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Theatre Of Screams & The Serb As Good As Salah”]

The Spaniard has had a nightmare time since making the switch to Merseyside, making just eight Premier League appearances, before failing to find the net in 13 league appearances on loan with Sevilla.

However, the Toffees are not loaded with depth up front, and an injury to Cenk Tosun would leave them heavily reliant on the inexperienced Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the inconsistent Oumar Niasse.

With Silva’s high-tempo pressing style bound to inflict some injuries as the season wears on, he could regret dumping a player who scored 14 La Liga goals in the 2016-17 season.

So, Everton fans, what do you think about the move? Should Sandro get another chance? Do you have enough depth up front? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Leeds fans delighted with their club’s Under-23 outfit

Leeds United have made a strong start to the 2018-19 Championship season, with a total of 14 points from six matches leaving them top of the division.

Indeed, Leeds have won four and drawn two of their six Championship fixtures this term, and will surely be up there when it comes to the race for promotion this season.

The club’s Under-23 outfit are also going along very well, meanwhile, with Monday’s 2-1 win over Cardiff City Under-23s leaving them top of the Professional Development League.

A double from Jack Clarke saw the Under-23s overcome Cardiff, and they have now collected 10 points from their four league matches this term.

Dating back to last season, Leeds’ Under-23 outfit have only lost one of their last 14 league matches, which is extremely impressive form at any level of football.

The Leeds fans have a lot to be pleased about at the moment, with new head coach Marcelo Bielsa making a positive impression.

And many have been on social media paying tribute to the Under-23 side.

Sunderland finally have a welcome headache ahead of this weekend’s game

After back to back relegation campaign, Sunderland had a major revamp over the summer as Stewart Donald took over the club while Jack Ross was installed as the new manager.

With the two at the helm, Sunderland brought in 12 new players over the summer. Following the arrivals of so many new players, you would’ve thought that it would take time for the team to bed in and adapt to the new manager’s tactics but it’s been so far so good for the Black Cats this season.

Sunderland have won four of their opening games in the league and have so far only lost to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup.

Ross did have some injury problems within his squad but following on from their positive start to the season, the new boss has confirmed that Glenn Loovens and Adam Matthews are close to full fitness. He also announced that Aiden Mcgeady is making good progress in his recovery but is still some way off from making a return, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

After so many years of negativity surrounding the club of late, it must be a breath of fresh air for the Sunderland faithful to have something to cheer about. As it stands Sunderland currently sit fourth, two points off the top. They are however going into a big game against sixth-placed Fleetwood Town this weekend but with the club showing such form, there’s no reason why the Black Cats can’t register another win this weekend.

Sunderland fans, what do you think?

Liverpool fans tweet support to Manchester United enemy Luke Shaw following injury worry

Liverpool fans are unlikely to be the biggest backers of Manchester United players due to the intense rivalry between the two sides.

However, on Saturday evening, the fanbase put their feelings aside to tweet their support to Luke Shaw.

The United left-back was involved in a worrying collision during England’s Nations League match against Spain.

The 23-year-old, who was making his first appearance for the Three Lions since March 2017, had a clash with Dani Carvajal and hit the ground heavily.

Shaw, who suffered a double leg-break in 2015, was treated for around seven minutes on the pitch and required 10 members of medical staff before being stretchered off.

The former Southampton player eased concern over the long-term affects by tweeting that he was feeling “fine”.

Some Liverpool fans took to the social networking site to wish Shaw well, despite their hatred for the club he plays for.

Millwall manager’s comments show positive signs for Leeds

Millwall manager Neil Harris’ outrage at Leeds’ celebrations after Saturday’s draw is a brilliant sign for Marcelo Bielsa and his men.

Harris took umbrage to the way Bielsa’s staff reacted after an equaliser by Jack Harrison on 89 minutes. The staff directed their celebrations at the Millwall technical area, and that clearly did not please some of Harris’ men.

However, these reactions are an indication of how important the result was to Leeds. To come away from that game with a point clearly meant a lot to the Argentinian and his men. Champion teams find a way of winning in all circumstances, and while it was only a draw on Saturday, it is still a very promising sign for Leeds.

This late goal is very similar to winners that Man City were able to muster from the brink last season. Notable ones were against Southampton and Crystal Palace, where Pep Guardiola’s men looked destined for a draw. The most significant one was against Bournemouth, where Raheem Sterling was sent off after his winner on 97 minutes. This is comparable to Leeds’ celebration and result at the weekend.

These were the reactions of teams that see themselves on course to win the league, which is a growing similarity between Man City last season and Leeds this season. Although the celebrations may seem over the top, it is because they are teams on a mission.

The result meant that Bielsa’s men remain at the top of the table, and will hope to maintain their superiority when Preston head to Elland Road tomorrow.

Leeds fans want to sign Mendy after his brilliant tweet

Loads of Leeds fans have been getting their hopes up for a rather optimistic transfer move, after Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy showed his support for Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds fans have been having plenty of fun so far this season, and they’re certainly enjoying a tweet from Premier League winner Mendy.

The Frenchman spent most of last season injured, but has taken the Premier League by storm this season, racking up the assists flying down the left flank.

Leeds have their own chance creating machine at left back though, as fans are joking about signing Mendy to compete with Barry Douglas for that spot.

The Manchester City ace played under Bielsa at Marseille, and is clearly impressed by what he’s seen so far this season at Elland Road.

[ad_pod ]

It’s fair to say the allure of playing for Bielsa at Elland Road will be monumental if his side can get promoted, although a move for Mendy may be a step too far.
