According to a report by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Tottenham Hotspur now want Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci and that interest can become ‘something more’ in the next few weeks.

The Lowdown: Spurs on the defensive chase…

The centre-back position has been touted as a main area for improvement this summer, with targets already being identified by Tottenham.

Indeed, as per Alasdair Gold, Nikola Milenkovic and Joachim Andersen are on the list, and there is also a belief that Merih Demiral is being eyed by Spurs.

Regardless of who they want to bring in, Tottenham will need to adopt a sell-to-buy policy this summer before any signings are made amid financial constraints.

Italian colossus Bonucci, who has been playing at the highest level for over a decade now, is still a regular for Juventus despite being 34 years old. Indeed he started 24 Serie A matches for the Old Lady last season and has now been called up to Italy’s 26-man Euro 2020 squad by Roberto Mancini.

As a result, Tottenham are now interested in Bonucci, and that could transform into ‘something more’ over these next few weeks.

The Verdict: Quick fix…

While Bonucci is a proven defender and could do wonders as part of a Tottenham backline, Levy and co should arguably be looking for a more long-term solution.

The £180,000-per-week powerhouse, standing at a lofty 1.9m (6 foot 3), has the physicality to impress in England, but the longevity is another matter entirely. At 34, Spurs could maybe hope for one or two more elite seasons from the defender before he inevitably declines.

The Lilywhites may have missed the boat for Bonucci but there is no doubt he would have been a sensational signing a few years ago. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, a known admirer of the 102-cap Italy legend, previously dubbed him an ‘exceptional player’ when speaking to the English press (Manchester Evening News).

Despite Bonucci’s vast experience and top-level success (nine Serie A titles), we believe Spurs should be looking elsewhere for defensive reinforcements this summer.

No entanto, ainda não foi detalhado se na linha de três do meio-campo jogarão três meias, ou dois meias e um volante. Caso queira que jogue na linha de três do centro, Leandro Donizete, que é elogiado pelo treinador há anos, pode ganhar uma vaga ao lado de Renato. Na ocasião, o garoto revelado na base deixou de ser inscrito no Paulistão para dar lugar ao argentino Maxi Rolón, que rescindiu contrato após quatro partidas. Dos que retornam e passarão por observação, Lucas é quem tem mais chances de ser aproveitado. Seu contrato é válido até o fim do ano, mesma validade do de Thiago Ribeiro.

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as their next manager.

The 48-year-old will be the man tasked with replacing Jose Mourinho in the dugout whilst the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ takes his fellow countryman’s place at AS Roma.

He’ll have a mighty task on his hands, not at least because he was thought to be the club’s sixth choice for the role.

Fonseca will arrive in North London knowing that his star striker Harry Kane wants to leave, the futures of several players are up in the air, the defence needs a major overhaul and much of the deadwood needs to be moved on.

However, he does meet the key criteria set out by chairman Daniel Levy, who very early on in the process – some six to seven weeks ago – was said to desire an ‘attack-minded’ head coach who could commit to the development of the club’s young stars.

In the former Shaktar Donetsk boss, they get just that.

Fonseca’s Roma side may have struggled to pick up results on the pitch but their style of play has drawn plenty of plaudits, ranging from The Athletic’s James Horncastle describing them as the league’s “entertainers” alongside Atalanta and Sassuolo, to Portuguese journalist Alex Goncalves once dubbing it as “stylish football.”

Ryan Sessegnon would have been one player Levy had in mind for next season and, following a successful loan spell at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, he’s surely in line to play more regularly for Spurs’ senior side.

Indeed, if Fonseca unleashes the versatile wide man next season, he could save himself, Levy, and the club several millions in the transfer market.

What makes the 21-year-old gem so appealing is his ability to play anywhere down that left flank, and given the Portuguese has often gone to a three-at-the-back wing-back system, the youngster could provide backup to Sergio Reguilon.

The futures of Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale are all up in the air, meaning that Spurs could have a shortage of out-and-out wingers going into next season. Again, Sessegnon solves this problem.

Now valued at just over £16m by Transfermarkt, the England under-21 international must step up if given an opportunity. It’s time for him to deliver on the huge potential with which he has always been touted throughout his short career to date.

“He is a big, big talent. The sky is the limit for him. He may become one of the world’s best in his position,” claimed Sessegnon’s former Fulham teammate Stefan Johansen. “He is an incredibly down to earth person who works hard every day. His future seems very bright.”

Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen has described him as a “highly talented and fast wide player, with a strong left foot.”

If he gets the Spurs job, Fonseca must look to develop the young dynamo next season. In the process he could save the club millions – or at the very least invest those funds in another area, such as the defence.

Rafael Marques e Guerra, que até o começo da semana faziam apenas atividades físicas, trabalharam no gramado com o restante dos atletas. Mina foi a campo, mas apenas para uma atividade física com o preparador físico Thiago Maldonado, enquanto Moisés segue na parte interna do centro de treinamento realizando fortalecimento muscular.

Nesta quinta, o Verdão fará um jogo-treino na Academia de Futebol, contra o Atibaia. Depois do teste, o atacante Willian será apresentado no clube.

– Estava brincando com o Luan que nunca fiz gol de cabeça na base (risos). Quando a fase está boa, fiz o gol. Muita felicidade. Estou desde 2006 no Vasco esperando essa minha chance. Só a minha família sabe o que sofri com lesão, treinando atrás do gol. Tudo tem o seu tempo. Me machuquei, estava acima do peso. Tenho que pensar que a hora certa chegou e preciso aproveitar.

A boa atuação rendeu vários elogios do técnico Cristovão Borges. No domingo, pela terceira rodada, a equipe do Vasco faz a sua estreia na temporada em São Januário, diante do Resende. A major update has emerged on Preston striker Jayden Stockley, one which all but ends Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of signing the attacker.

What’s the talk?

According to Hampshire Live, Sheffield Wednesday are close to missing out on Preston forward Jayden Stockley as Charlton are poised to complete a deal for the 27-year-old. The report claims that Portsmouth had agreed a transfer fee with Preston, but Stockley wants to sign for Charlton and the Addicks are now set to bring the centre-forward back to The Valley.

Earlier this week, the Lancashire Post reported that Wednesday were interested in the attacker. The report claimed that a number of League One clubs had submitted similar bids for Stockley, with it being down to the man himself to decide which club he wants to join. This update from Hampshire Live seems to suggest that he has chosen Charlton.

In May of this year, Charlton boss Nigel Adkins lauded the “phenomenal” striker for his work rate and the threat he offers at the top end of the pitch. He told London News Online:

“Jayden Stockley was magnificent yet again. He works his socks off. In the last minute of the game he is down near our corner flag, winning the ball.

“He just kept going – phenomenal. He is such a massive threat. If we can just improve the quality to him, he is such a handful in this division.”

Fans will be gutted

Wednesday fans will be gutted with his latest update as it appears to rule them out of having any chance of landing Stockley.

Dejphon Chansiri has seemingly not been able to convince Stockley that a move to Hillsborough is better than one to The Valley and the 27-year-old now looks set to sign permanently for Charlton. Not only is this a blow for Wednesday, but it is also a boost for their League One rivals Charlton as they are on the verge of adding an excellent player to their squad.

Stockley proved his quality whilst on loan in League One last season. The target man scored eight and assisted two in 20 games, averaging an exceptional WhoScored rating of 7.41. He also won 9.8 aerial battles per game to highlight his impressive ability in the air, something which makes him a top-class outlet as he has shown he can beat defenders to the ball.

The £5.1k-per-week beast could have been a great addition to Darren Moore’s squad and the fans would have loved Stockley at Hillsborough.

His overall performances last seaon were superb and SWFC fans could have enjoyed his displays in League One, but they will now – it seems – be watching him play against them twice for Charlton, which is a bit gutting for them.
