Some Everton fans have been left fuming as a revelation from Lucas Digne emerged.

Speaking to evertontv (via Everton’s official website), the left-back has claimed that Rafael Benitez wants him to be more of a defender this season and hold back from attacking as much as he normally world.

The Frenchman revealed: “The manager asked me to be more of a defender this season, to stay back a bit more and keep a better balance for the team. Then, sometimes, I can drive forwards, but only when it is right for the team.”

Unfortunately for Digne, it has not made much difference, as he has only managed to help Everton keep three clean sheets in 12 games across all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal and not providing any assists (Transfermarkt).

Comparing that to previous campaigns, in where he managed to secure seven assists from defence in each of the last two Premier League seasons (Transfermarkt), it suggests that the sacrifices Digne has made to his attacking game are simply not worth it given his lack of clean sheets so far this term.

O lance capital, que transformou a partida e o ânimo do são-paulino, foi aos 17 minutos do segundo tempo. O São Paulo vencia por 2 a 0 e a torcida cantava a plenos pulmões na arquibancada. Na primeira, aos 27 minutos, acertou o travessão depois de grande defesa de Sidão. Mas três minutos depois não teve jeito. Gamalho aproveitou o cochilo de Edimar, que já havia falhado assim no clássico contra o Palmeiras, e empatou. Havia uma Ponte no meio do caminho.

Na verdade, o São Paulo precisará atravessar uma ponte enorme se quiser se salvar do rebaixamento. Drama é pouco para a situação da equipe. Nem quando tudo parece estar bem as coisas dão certo. O emocional, que já era ruim, tende a abalar mais com um jogo em tais circunstâncias.

Não fosse pela poder de decisão de Hernanes, provavelmente o São Paulo seria lanterna. São sete gols em sete jogos. Igualou Luis Fabiano como segundo melhor início da história do clube, contando as primeiras dez partidas. O recordista é o atacante Reinaldo, que em 2002 fez oito em dez jogos. O torcedor tem de acender uma vela para o Profeta a cada dia.

A torcida, aliás, também fez sua parte novamente. Não lotou o Morumbi, mas esteve em grande número e fez festa. Apoiou. Merece, há tempos, coisa melhor.

Mas no meio do caminho havia uma Ponte. Há uma ponte no meio do caminho. E ela é imensa.

What’s the word?

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who delivered a bold transfer claim to GIVEMESPORT this week.

The German international is yet to commit his future to Chelsea and with his contract up at the end of the season, he could move on despite becoming a regular under Thomas Tuchel.

Spurs have always maintained an interest in the 28-year-old centre-back and their appointment of Antonio Conte may have bolstered their chances of securing him as the pair worked together at Stamford Bridge several years ago.

“I think Tottenham are willing to really push the boat out to get Rudiger,” the journalist revealed.

“I think the change in manager would have helped them turn his head a little bit. But Rudiger knows he’s basically got a pick of the teams when it comes to when his contract’s up.”

Despite Rudiger’s phenomenal record against Spurs, and his past controversy involving Heung-min Son, there is no denying that he would be quite the coup for the north Londoners.

The defender, rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, started for the Blues’ in their Champions League final victory over Manchester City last season and has featured in 14 of their 15 matches across the same competition and the Premier League.

His impressive form under Tuchel once earned high praise from one of the best to ever to it in the English top-flight.

“Look at Rudiger, he’s arguably, since Tuchel has been there [at Chelsea], been the best defender in the Premier League. Him or [Ruben] Dias in that time. He’s been unbelievable, he’s like an animal,” former Manchester United colossus Rio Ferdinand told his podcast (via the Metro).

The German beast played 45 times under Conte in west London, so he would need no time in adjusting to the Italian’s methods, tactics and strict coaching style and that makes him a very intriguing target.

European heavyweights Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in Rudiger, so if Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy can beat them to his signature, then it would be an unreal statement to the rest of the Premier League.

The slight possibility of that happening should have many around N17 absolutely buzzing with excitement. He would be one major signing at Spurs.

وعندما سئل عن وجود لاعبين “سوبر” في الدوري، أجاب: “هناك لاعبون سوبر ولكن في الزمالك لأنهم من حققوا الدوري وكأس مصر”.

وحول من أجهد الزمالك أكثر من مدربي الأهلي في مباراتي القمة بالدوري والكأس؟، أوضح: “سامي قمصان وهذا الطبيعي لأنه كان متعايش مع الفريق، مباراة 2-2 كانت مرهقة فنيًا، والشوط الأول للأهلي والثاني للزمالك”.

وكان سامي قمصان المدرب العام للأهلي أمام الزمالك في مباراة القمة بالدور الثاني من الدوري، بينما تولى البرتغالي كارلوس كيروش الإدارة الفنية لفريق الكرة بالقلعة الحمراء في نهائي كأس مصر نسخة الموسم الماضي.

وعلق على قرار الأهلي الذي صدر باللعب بالناشئين، قائلا: “كانت رسالة واضحة أنه فقد الامل، وكان ذلك سببا في زيادة إصرارنا وعزيمتنا، وكان اعتراف صريح أن الموسم بالنسبة للمنافس انتهى”.

وواصل مدرب الزمالك: “لكن نحن لم نشعر أن الدوري انتهى، فكل يوم نستيقظ من النوم لننبه اللاعبين أنه ليس لنا علاقة بما يحدث في الأهلي، وحصدنا بطولة الدوري بذراعنا لموسمين متتالين”.

Stuart Clark has arrived in Cardiff, London, Birmingham and Leeds to headlines extolling his chances of playing in each of the first four Tests of the Ashes. On the first three occasions, he was omitted. And he is hardly dusting off the baggy green ahead of this latest fixture either.Unlike Brett Lee, who all but dared the selectors not to pick him during a bullish press conference on Wednesday, Clark is circumspect when assessing his chances for Headingley. Certainly, he is frustrated at having been overlooked so far in the series – particularly when team balance, rather than form or fitness, has been the selectors’ reasoning – but Clark harbours no demands or ultimatums on the eve of the fourth Test.”I haven’t got any massive statements; I’m just waiting for an opportunity,” Clark told Cricinfo. “It looks like there may be some carry and a bit of variable bounce as well. I’m as keen as ever to play. Whether I get no wickets or 20 wickets, I just want to play. It’s killing me just training and not playing.”I thought I was a real chance for the first Test. I thought I was going to play, but I never really knew. For Lord’s, with the way they’d played at Cardiff, I thought it would be pretty hard to change the team.
