The New South Wales players aren’t so concerned about their bank balances after winning US$2.5m for taking out the Champions League Twenty20, but the bonus is not enough to keep the state free from long-term financial worries. On the chalkboard

In terms of which players Johnson could pick to be in his starting XI on this occasion, one player that started the match against Oxford that should not be in the team on this occasion is Lynden Gooch.

Despite managing to provide an assist in their 2-1 win over Cambridge United last month, the American’s performance against Oxford left a lot to be desired.

With 78 touches of the ball in total, Gooch only managed to complete 19 of the 37 passes he attempted, misplacing five crosses and ten long balls, losing possession on 28 occasions in total.

As well as his wastefulness on the ball, he didn’t have much of an impact in an attacking sense either with just one key pass and one shot at goal which was off target.

Labelled as an “emotive” player in the past by Johnson, this performance was anything but that and ultimately earned the attacker an uninspiring overall match rating of 6.6/10, making him one of the lowest-rated players on the day according to SofaScore.

With this in mind, perhaps it could be time for Johnson to bring Gooch’s run in the team to an end on this occasion to give his side the best chance of securing a win.

However, with the plethora of injury issues that Sunderland have at the moment, Johnson could be forced into having to stick with Gooch, who is currently earning a weekly wage of £5k-per-week according to Salary Sport, for the time being.

If this turns out to be the case and Gooch does start tonight, he’ll have to make sure he puts in a better and more impactful performance to make sure Sunderland don’t slip up and come away without a win.

Se você começa a mexer demais, você nunca vai ter um time – disse o treinador.

Apesar do período ruim do jogador, Oswaldo se mostra otimista e aposta na melhora do jogador atuando no lado direito, levando em consideração seu desempenho contra o Atlético-PR.

– Ele fez uma partida excelente contra o Atlético-PR, defendeu, foi responsável por roubar a bola no contra-ataque do gol do Robinho. Existe uma instabilidade em alguns jogadores, e no Cazares, particularmente. Nós estamos trabalhando para melhorar isso também – apontou.

O técnico também citou a evolução que o meia-atacante Valdívia vem apresentando atuando pelo lado esquerdo.

Depois de uma grande virada sobre o rival Cruzeiro, na última rodada, o Atlético-MG deve vir com poucas mudanças para a partida contra o Botafogo, neste domingo, no Independência. No treino desta quinta-feira, Oswaldo de Oliveira esboçou a equipe titular com Otero no lugar de Cazares. O lateral Fábio Santos foi poupado da atividade, apresentando sintomas de virose.

Aston Villa will consider signing a new midfielder during the January window following the injury to Marvelous Nakamba.

That’s according to reliable reporter Gregg Evans, which as to be expected, had a number of supporters talking on social media.

Nakamba had been a regular under new manager Steven Gerrard, however, the Zimbabwe international suffered a knee injury against Liverpool on the weekend and missed the win over Norwich City on Tuesday.

His 2021/22 season may well be over as a result, and Villa now look set to act with the 27-year-old sidelined by considering a midfield addition in the winter window.

Evans didn’t name-check any possible targets but did appear to rule out a move for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, who was wanted at Villa Park over the summer but ended up signing a new contract at St Mary’s.

The Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) makes its official debut, after a series of trials for over a year, tomorrow with the first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan at the University Oval in Dunedin. The system will also be used in the Tests between Australia and West Indies, which begin later this week.There were doubts over whether it would be implemented for this series, due to the high implementation costs involved, but an agreement was reached with Animation Research Limited, a Dunedin-based company, to supply their Virtual Eye ball-tracking technology. The third umpire will now have access to more advanced technology, like the Hot Spot.”With the improvement of technology, umpires’ mistakes are exposed and scrutinised like never before,” Dave Richardson, the ICC general manager – cricket, said. “This system will help alleviate the problems created when mistakes – which appear obvious on replays – are made.”The system allows television technology to be used in a way that will not result in too many delays, will not de-skill the umpires and will take some pressure off the umpires. The system allows each team two unsuccessful reviews per innings, which can be escalated to the third umpire. The ICC announced in June that the review system would be implemented from October. Due to the non-settlement over who would bear the costs (national boards or broadcasters) UDRS was scrapped for the ongoing India-Sri Lanka Tests, will not be used for the South Africa-England Test series.

Everton are ‘very close’ to completing the signing of Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv, according to Ukrainian journalist Ihor Tsyhanyk.

He outlined: “Official information on Mykolenko’s transfer to Everton will be after January 1. As far as I understand, the last stage of negotiations is underway. The clubs are very close to completing everything. Mykolenko’s transfer will amount to 20 million.

“I spoke with Igor Surkis, who is very glad that there is interest in Ukrainian footballers. And he confirmed that he really promised the players that if worthy offers come, he will give them a chance to prove themselves in other clubs.”

The verdict

Mykolenko may need some time to adapt to life on Merseyside. He’s only 22 years old and is coming from Europe’s 11th strongest league, as per UEFA’s coefficient, to the continent’s highest-ranked division, a significant step-up in quality.

However, he does have experience of taking on top-level opposition, having faced Bayern Munich and Barcelona in this season’s Champions League. Indeed, he doesn’t seem daunted when taking on elite attackers – according to Ukrainian football expert Andrew Todos, he ‘pocketed Cristiano Ronaldo’ in an international clash with Portugal in 2019.

Everton fans would be quite right to feel a sense of excitement over Tshyhanyk’s update, as it looks as if a very talented young footballer is on the brink of coming to Goodison Park.
