Tottenham cannot play Moussa Sissoko as a right-back

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Moussa Sissoko appears to be an option for Tottenham Hotspur at right-back.

A London Evening Standard report claims that Kyle Walker-Peters has lost his battle to be fit for the encounter with Arsenal in the north London derby this weekend.

Kieran Trippier, of course, has been sold to Atletico Madrid; Juan Foyth is injured; Aurier is said to be expendable.

And Mauricio Pochettino has been left with a clear decision: Play Sissoko at right-back or throw Serge Aurier into the starting XI for the first time this season.

The France international filled in on the flank after Walker-Peters was injured against the Magpies but, really, Spurs shouldn’t be considering this as a legitimate option.

Now, of course, Sissoko is an excellent footballer. He has developed really well at Tottenham since his move from Newcastle United, having initially been played as a right winger. Now a central midfielder, he is a dynamic, hard-running presence who thrives on the transition.

What he is not is a defender.

Per WhoScored, Sissoko makes an average of 0.7 tackles per game in the Premier League, which is just fine for a defender. He concedes one foul and is dribbled past on 0.3 occasions per game; again, those statistics are fine.

Offensively, though, he is dispossessed 1.3 times per game and makes one unsuccessful touch per game.

The statistics don’t tell you that Sissoko regularly passes inaccurately too, leaving the ball slightly behind the player he is aiming for, or slightly ahead, even if, in the eyes of the stats, it does reach its target.

That’s an issue at right-back.

If he is to drive forward as he does in midfield, he will have to gallop back, too, or he will have to ensure that his distribution is perfect.

He cannot dribble as he does usually, either, regularly pushing the ball ahead of him, even looking to poke it around the opposition before sprinting past them.

At a base level, Sissoko would have to completely alter the way he plays to have any chance of making a success of being a defender.

Pochettino should start Aurier instead; at least he has experience of playing as a defender.

Barcelona fans gush over footage of Mateo Messi, Lionel’s son

Lionel Messi is someone every single football fan in the world knows about. And it’s pretty safe to say that whether you’re a Barcelona fan or not, Messi is someone you’re very much familiar with.

But the Argentine wizard, as brilliant and unreal as he still may be, is now slowly but surely making the first strides into his 30s and while he’s certainly an immortal in the context of footballing history, he won’t be able to score goals for Barcelona perennially.

One Messi who’s not as popular, however, is one of his sons, Mateo, who just turned four years old the other day.

Young Messi is, fortunately, a fan of football and his mother posted video footage of him scoring some goals in what seemed to be the family’s backyard.

Needless to say, many Barcelona fans were quick to jump to Twitter and gush all over that footage, calling the young kid the “next goat” and even saying he might go on to be “better than Messi” himself.

Of course, many were joking but they will seriously hope young Mateo becomes the next big thing in the future.

Take a look at some of their replies down below:

Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson posts on Instagram after international break

While Henderson did enjoy some time off, as he posted on Instagram that he went to Paris for a few days, it’s clear that he’s been looking forward to the international break ending just as much as the rest of us.

The stopper has always shown incredible passion for the game both on and off the pitch, and his post says that he can’t wait to get back to Bramall Lane specifically.

It’s not surprising that Henderson wants to get back in front of his home fans as he’s one of the most beloved figures amongst the Blades supporters.

His heroics between the sticks last season along with his antics on Twitter made him an instant fan favourite, and this latest post will make fans fall in love with him even more.

Manchester United’s De Gea announces contract extension with dramatic video

[ad_pod ]”There’s no place like home” – When you’ve been made the best-paid player in the Premier League that is.It’s the news Manchester United have been waiting to hear, as David de Gea has signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford. While the Spanish stopper didn’t enjoy his best run of form in a United jersey last season, having conceded 54 top-flight goals, he remains one of the club’s few world-class players. So it will come as a great relief that he’s committed his future, especially with Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer’s rebuild project well underway.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

De Gea recently took to Twitter to broadcast the news…

You’d have thought the club would’ve learnt by now that announcing deals via dramatic videos is a very bad idea. How could anyone forget Alexis Sanchez’s perplexing little piano recital? Because that went so well.

United travel to West Ham United in the next round of Premier League fixtures. Let’s hope De Gea fares a little better than his musical Chilean friend, as another blunder like the one against Crystal Palace would be a tad embarrassing after this.

Man Utd fans slam Andreas Pereira after disappointing West Ham display

[ad_pod ]

After all of Jesse Lingard’s well-publicised struggles with form, you would think Andreas Pereira would have taken his chance at Manchester United by now.

The 23-year-old has flitted in and out of the team this season, starting in the 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea in the side’s opening Premier League game, before being dropped to the bench for both the Wolves and Crystal Palace fixtures.

After starting the previous two matches in the league however, Pereira was once again given the opportunity to shine at West Ham on Saturday, but failed to really lay down a marker.

The Brazilian managed no shots on target and made just 28 passes in the entire game – a performance that led to him receiving just a 6.48 rating from Whoscored.

After seeing Pereira’s performance against the Hammers, United fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations about the attacking midfielder.

Many Red Devils supporters insisted the 23-year-old simply isn’t good enough to be playing for a side of United’s stature.

Some fans even questioned how the Brazilian managed to play the entire game on Saturday, with one fan in particular claiming he is “nowhere near the standard required”.

Juventus fans are gushing over Aaron Ramsey’s latest performance

[ad_pod ]

Juventus continued racking up victories when they visited Brescia on matchday five of the 2019/20 Serie A season.

A narrow 2-1 triumph, however, was much harder to earn than they would have wished but the three points are there and Bianconeri are once again top of the table in Italy.

The titans from Turin have so far won four out of their five Serie A fixtures, sharing the spoils once against Fiorentina in a goalless draw.

One player, however, that stood out from the crowd despite not scoring or assisting was ex-Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey.

The 28-year-old is still gelling into the squad since his arrival from the Gunners on a free transfer during the summer.

But according to many Juventus fans on social media and Twitter, he is well and truly earning his spot in the team.

Many of them were gushing over his performance and believe that he will be the man to lead the club to glory.

You can see some of their replies and compliments down in the collection of tweets below:

Liverpool’s Alisson isn’t as good with his feet as Ederson according to De Bruyne

Man City and Liverpool are two of the world’s best teams at the moment.

City are the champions of England and Liverpool are the champions of Europe, and the two sides were only separated by one point when all was said and done in the Premier League last season.

It’s hard to say which squad is better, but it’s seemingly even harder to say which team has the better goalkeeper as Ederson and Alisson are both top quality stoppers – ranking second and first respectively in the Premier League for clean sheets last season.

Kevin De Bruyne was asked to take part in a FIFA challenge this week and he gave his opinion on the goalkeeper debate.

The Belgian was asked to give his thoughts on the best Premier League XI on FIFA 20, and first up was the Liverpool goalie.

Of course, it was always going to be an opinion-splitting decision for Alisson to be chosen over Ederson.

De Bruyne says that his teammate is ‘definitely better’ with his feet, but in the end he concedes that Alisson is a fantastic player, stating that he’s fine with him being rated higher after such a fantastic debut campaign in England.

Barcelona’s attacking trident pose for an iconic image from the clash vs Inter Milan

Barcelona’s midweek Champions League clash was a success for many reasons.Of course, the three points against a really tough opponent in the form of a red-hot Inter Milan is the obvious one. But there were many other positives directly connected to that one.For instance, the big news was, of course, the return of Barcelona’s talisman, Lionel Messi.Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The little Argentine was, until that game, yet to complete the whole 90 minutesÂthis season and he made a big impact on his return, dropping another masterclass performance in the process.

But alongside him, there was one other player who made his return – Ousmane Dembele.

Just like Messi, the young Frenchman was also quite unlucky with injuries and once he came on and Barcelona successfully turned the game around, all three of Messi, Dembele and Luis Suarez celebrated enthusiastically.

And needless to say, it made for a brilliant image that was captured on the pitches of Camp Nou and immediately burned through Barcelona’s social media – particularly through Twitter.

The image depicted the three of them in each other’s embrace and it really did warm many of the fans’ hearts and certainly made headlines across the platform.

Many were calling this photo iconic and basically drooling over it. You can see some of the other reactions to it down below:

Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold was horrifically wasteful vs Leicester

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered five key passes on Saturday, but he also had one of the most wasteful performances you are ever likely to see.

There’s just something about the way Alexander-Arnold strikes a football. Whether he’s zipping a daisy-cutter across the pitch to Andy Robertson or whipping curved crosses in behind the defence, he is one of the purest strikers of the ball around.

That said, with the pure amount of crossing, long balls and key passes he attempts, things are always going to awry sometimes.

The Reds weren’t at their best on Saturday. Despite racking up 18 shots to the visitors’ two, Jurgen Klopp’s men constantly mishit the shot, over-hit the final pass or took one too many touches, and no one epitomised that more than the 21 year-old full-back.

No, that’s not a typo. Per Sofascore, the England international lost possession 49 times.

That’s forty-nine. As in the amount of years it’s been since the Beatles disbanded and Apollo 13 called back down to Earth to tell Houston they had a problem.

Alexander-Arnold is known for his pinpoint passing and crossing, but against the Foxes, he completed just four of the ten crosses he attempted and only five of the 18 long balls he tried. He also completed just 49% of his overall passes.

Now, it is perhaps a mark of just how truly dangerous he is for opposing teams that he still managed to produce five key passes and create two “big chances”, per Sofascore, but nonetheless this was a really erratic display from the local lad.

He did his part defensively with five clearances and five interceptions, but his usually irrepressible passing radar certainly malfunctioned on Saturday.

With a visit to Old Trafford to come after the international break, Reds fans will have to hope he finds his range before then.

Tottenham star Harry Kane idolises Tom Brady’s "Burden of responsibility"

Harry Kane’s hero isn’t a Tottenham player nor an old England star. In fact, Kane’s sporting hero doesn’t play football at all – not the real kind anyway. It’s perhaps unsurprising that the Tottenham forward’s all-time favourite person in sport is American football star Tom Brady, given his intention to switch sports at the end of his “soccer†career, as we’re sure he’ll start calling it if he becomes a Gatorade slurping pseudo American and fulfils his ambition of becoming an NFL kicker once he retires.Makes sense doesn’t it, really?Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Should Kane want to lead his fellow Spurs brethren out of the mess they currently find themselves in, which sees them with more losses in 2019 than any other top-flight side, then he will indeed need to channel the quality and success of his football counterpart, Brady, who holds six Super Bowl rings.

The Athletic journalist Jack-Pitt Brooke revealed the reasons behind Kane idolising his hero, and it makes for interesting listening…
