Fletcher joined Wrexham last summerHelped them get promoted to League OneStriker says he's made 'mates for life' hereWHAT HAPPENED?
The veteran forward joined the Red Dragons last summer as a free agent and went onto score eight goals as they earned promotion to League One last month. The 37-year-old has played for Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland, Marseille, and more, but said the bond his current team-mates have is up there with the best he's seen.
AdvertisementGettyWHAT STEVEN FLETCHER SAID
He said, via The Leader: "I have really enjoyed this season, it has been fantastic. It has been great getting to play with the boys. It is an absolute great dressing room, one of the best I have been in. I know it is easy for me to say because of what we have done but on a personal level, the lads, the friendships and the bond I have made has been great. Honestly, you couldn't have asked for a better changing room to come into, especially at this stage of my career. A few of the lads will be mates for life."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite being in the twilight stage of his career, Wrexham clearly value the former Scotland international's presence at the club; evidenced by the striker being offered a contract extension at SToK Cae Ras. He has plenty of experience in top European leagues, so his nous and quality may be invaluable in League One.

After enjoying a trip out to Las Vegas with the Wrexham squad – something that was paid for by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – Fletcher and his team-mates will now enjoy their summer breaks, but will report back for pre-season late next month.
Derby County are believed to be plotting a move to sign a "phenomenal" player for Paul Warne, according to a fresh transfer update.
Derby eyeing January signings
The Rams have made a promising start to the 2023/24 season, currently sitting seventh in the League One table ahead of the festive action in the coming weeks. Granted, Derby could be in a better position towards the automatic promotion positions where Portsmouth and Oxford United currently are, but they are nicely poised to finish in the playoff places, hopefully making their way back into the Championship next year.
The January transfer window will allow Warne the chance to add to his squad, should the money and right targets be available, and the Rams have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks. Young Irish midfielder Adam Murphy is one player who has been backed to move to Derby, being seen as a long-term acquisition, while AFC Wimbledon's Ali Al-Hamadi is also seen as an option for the Rams. It looks as though another player has now joined the list of potential additions at Pride Park in January, with a fellow League One ace tipped to head there.
Derby want to sign CJ Hamilton
According to Football Insider, Derby are one of the clubs interested in signing Blackpool winger CJ Hamilton, with the Rams "plotting a move" for him.
Derby County manager Paul Warne.
Huddersfield Town and Queens Park Rangers are also seen as potential suitors for the 28-year-old wide man, who is out of contract at his current club at the end of this season. That means Blackpool could jump at the chance to earn a fee for him in January, rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.
It is claimed that "Derby are keen to strengthen in the new year to boost their promotion bid", with numerous clubs "ready to test Blackpool's resolve". Derby may not find it easy to bring in Hamilton in January, considering there is interest from clubs higher up in the Football League currently, but he could be such a shrewd addition if they get a deal over the line.
This season, the Rams transfer target has four assists in League One so far this season, highlighting the creativity he can provide from out wide and at 28 years of age, he is someone with lots of experience, not to mention being a left-footed player who can play on either flank, which could appeal to Warne.
Hamilton has even earned huge praise from former Mansfield Town manager David Flitcroft in the past during their time at the club together, saying of him:
"I can play him anywhere and he is phenomenal. He's had another match-winning day today. Winning goals are the ones you remember."
Derby may need an extra injection of attacking quality in their squad to further enhance their hopes of going up to the Championship this season, and in Hamilton, they could have a perfect option to bring in. An overall tally of 24 goals and 34 assists combined in the Championship, League One and League Two combined further outlines why he could be a smart signing.

WHAT KANE SAID
Prolific Bayern marksman Kane, with 39 goals to his name this season, will now line up against Bellingham in an epic semi-final encounter with plenty riding on it. The England captain has said of that contest: “Jude has had a fantastic season, he’s a top player. I’m really happy for him but it will be another war against his team – but that’s the experiences that we both went abroad to try to achieve, to play in these big nights in the Champions League, to play in these big semi-finals. It will be one to enjoy and I’m sure there will be a lot of English fans watching both of us. We have to focus on ourselves. Of course, I’ll say hello but once we’re on the pitch, it’s business.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kane and Bellingham are hoping to book a date in the familiar surroundings of Wembley Stadium on June 1, with the Champions League final heading to London. Kane added on a bid to face either Borussia Dortmund or Paris Saint-Germain at the home of English football: “With Wembley being our national stadium, it’s extra motivation there for us but there are two games ahead of us before that, which are going to be really tough so we have to focus on that. Real Madrid are a big club with amazing history in the Champions League so it’s going to be a really difficult game for us. But that’s what the semi-finals of the Champions League are all about, the biggest teams, so we enjoy this and then prepare for that game in a couple of weeks.”

WHAT NEXT?
Bellingham has already won the Spanish Super Cup this season, and has helped Real to the top of the Liga table, but Kane is still waiting on elusive major silverware and knows that the Champions League provides his last shot at bringing that barren run to a close at club level in 2024.
Aston Villa know all too well the benefits of harvesting a talent from their academy, and Unai Emery could be handed a boost in the near future with one of the club’s pending stars.
The Villans are enjoying life under the Spaniard and challenging towards the top of the table, however there is much to be celebrated behind the scenes of the first team, as one starlet in particular is making waves at Bodymoor Heath.
Rory Wilson's statistics at youth level
Last summer, Villa welcomed Scottish striker Rory Wilson to the academy, signing the highly-rated teenager from Rangers.
Prior to his arrival, the 17-year-old netted an outstanding 49 goals in 2021/22, with his exit a huge loss for the Scottish Premiership outfit who failed to tie the prospect down with a refreshed contract.
At the point of his signing for Villa, academy manager Mark Harrison expressed that the club were “delighted” by his arrival, adding that he hoped to see him one day feature for the first team, a wish that could become reality sooner than expected.

The Scotland U21 international has made a statement start following his arrival in 2022, scoring 26 goals in only 29 appearances for Villa’s U18’s so far, which could warrant him taking the next step in his career in the Midlands.
Rory Wilson's style of play
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Villa are “prepared to discuss” a five-year contract for Wilson, as he continues to impress at youth level.
In securing his future, the Villans could not only line up a future heir to take the throne in the first team, but also be planting a gold mine.
Romano mentioned that “many clubs” have the 17-year-old on their radar, and if his progression continues to develop at such a searing pace, who knows how much the striker could eventually be worth in years to come.
What Villa have in Wilson is one of the “best in Europe”, as he was once dubbed by international coach Brian McLaughlin for his ability to score goals so frequently.
Deployable as both a centre-forward or as a winger on either flank, the teen sensation was branded a ‘versatile attacker’ and lauded as a ‘lively frontman’ by the Daily Record’s Mark Pirie.
Such a high scoring rate showcases a clinical streak in the final third, a trait that is not recognisable in every forward in the game, however Villa are in safe hands with their current and future leaders of the line.
Emery has his own goal machine in Ollie Watkins, who like Wilson, understands how to put the ball into the net, having already scored nine goals in all competitions for the Midlands club this term, after previously netting 16 goals across all fronts in 2022/23.
Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.
By tying the Scotsman down, the Villans could be in good stead to line up their eventual heir to the in-form Watkins as Wilson continues to dominate at youth level, seeing him praised as a “star in the making” by U23 scout Antonio Mango.
Villa have signalled their understanding of the potential they have in a talent as prolific as Wilson with rumoured contract talks, with the next steps there for the teen to take when Emery deems it appropriate to integrate him into the first team.
Away from the expensive forwards on show in the transfer market, the Spaniard could already have his eventual replacement for Watkins lined up, with Wilson in line to have a flourishing career at Villa Park.
Chelsea opted to hire Mauricio Pochettino as manager in the summer and Todd Boehly armed him with the necessary funds to bolster his squad.
While a ludicrous amount of money was spent on the likes of Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, a key theme was present throughout the majority of their business and that was a strategy of recruiting players under the age of 23.
Since Boehly took over, the Blues recruitment model has shifted towards acquiring youngsters, who they can develop into superstars, as opposed to players in their prime.
Pochettino boasts a strong track record of developing young players, so he felt like the perfect man to lead Chelsea into a new era.
And he's already demonstrated those powers by getting the best out of Palmer, who has posted eight goal contributions since arriving from Manchester City in the summer.
Competition for places in the first-team is overflowing, but the Argentine also has an impressive roster of players to handpick from his academy, including 17-year-old winger Ato Ampah, who could become the club's next Raheem Sterling.
Ato Ampah's season in numbers
The explosive winger, who signed as an under-11 from grassroots football, has been in terrific goalscoring form in the under-18 Premier League this term and has demonstrated his ability as a regular source of goals from wide.
Described by Chelsea's official website as a 'very quick and dynamic attacking player', Ampah has racked up an impressive four goals and supplied two assists in four matches, including a hand in all five goals in their 5-1 rout of Aston Villa.
Much like Sterling, who can operate on either flank, the talented teenager can play in a number of forward positions and this show of versatility will only increase his first-team chances in the future.
Ampah has always had the desire to beat his opponent with pace and skill to fashion opportunities for his team, with the video above depicting the youngster terrorising defences in the under-16s, and this season he's producing the end product to match his sensational approach play.
Likewise, Sterling has become renowned for those attributes throughout his career, rising to prominence as one of the league's most coveted wingers.
It is therefore impressive that Ampah – who has already trained with the first team – is currently on par with such a quality player in terms of scoring and that is a testament to the teenager's talents.
Raheem Sterling's season by numbers
During his first 38 games in a Chelsea shirt, Sterling struggled to replicate the form he showed at Man City, having only scored nine goals.
However, since the arrival of Pochettino, the 28-year-old has shown signs of returning to his scintillating best.
In 14 matches this season, the Englishman has produced five goals and supplied two assists in all competitions and although that form didn't warrant him a place in Gareth Southgate's latest England squad, the second half of the season will prove pivotal to his chances.
With a shot at EURO 2024 glory on the cards next summer, the fleet-footed winger will want to play a starring role in his nation's chances having featured at every major tournament since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
While his clear aim is to get back into England reckoning, Ampah will be continuing his development in Chelsea's youth setup with the hope of one day fulfilling his dream of pulling on the famous Blue shirt.
Former Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale was allowed to complete an overhaul of his playing squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The English tactician decided to shake things up after the club failed to bring a single piece of silverware back to Ibrox at the end of last season, with a host of players moving on or coming in.
Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Glen Kamara, Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Antonio Colak, and Ianis Hagi were among those who moved on, either on free transfers, on a permanent basis, or on loan.
These exits opened the door for new signings to be brought in and Beale was able to snap up nine new recruits throughout the summer transfer window.

As you can see in the table above, the ex-Gers boss splashed the cash on three new centre-forward options to bolster their attacking options after Colak and Morelos' departures.
Lammers was reportedly brought in from Atalanta for a fee of £3.5m, whilst Dessers came in for an initial £4.3m from Italian side Cremonese. Danilo was the most expensive acquisition, though, as he was signed from Feyenoord for a fee that could rise to £6m.
The former two have struggled to hit their stride in Glasgow and new manager Philippe Clement could look to the January transfer window to reignite the club's interest in Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland, who could be a dream foil for Danilo.
Rangers' interest in Shankland
TEAMtalk reported in June of this year that the Gers were eyeing up a possible swoop to sign the Scottish Premiership marksman to improve their attack.
The outlet claimed that he ranked highly in Beale's list of number nine targets and that the Ibrox giants were considering whether or not to submit an offer for his services.
At that point, only Sterling, Dowell, and Butland had been signed by Rangers. This means that their interest in Shankland predated the deals for Dessers, Lammers, and Danilo.
Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland.
However, it remains unknown as to why the Gers and Beale opted against a swoop for the Scottish marksman in order to pursue the other three, who did eventually arrive in Glasgow.
Clement could now look to put that right by reigniting the interest in Shankland for the January transfer window. Journalist Jonny McFarlane recently claimed that the club will need to sign another number nine at the start of next year and stated that the Hearts star did his chances no harm with his performance against the Light Blues.
Shankland's performance against Rangers
The Gers beat Hearts 2-1 at Ibrox on Sunday and the right-footed whiz gave a great account of himself with his display at the top end of the pitch for the away side.
His goal gave the visitors a shock lead after just five minutes as Shankland peeled off Ben Davies and pinned himself on the undersized Ridvan Yilmaz, who could do nothing to prevent the striker from powering in a fantastic header past Jack Butland at the far post.

As shown by the statistics above, the 28-year-old finisher produced a sublime all-around display and was unfortunate to be on the losing side on the day.
He showcased his goalscoring quality along with his progressive play in possession, by taking players on and creating a chance for one of his teammates, along with the physical presence his frame allows him to provide.
Standing at 6 foot 1, Shankland could be a dream foil for Danilo, who stands at 5 foot 9, to play off at the top end of the pitch at Ibrox during the second half of the season.
Shankland's statistics for Hearts
Above all else, the Scotland international is a proven Premiership performer who could come in and hit the ground running as a reliable goalscorer for Clement.
Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the Hearts ace has plundered an eye-catching 27 goals and four assists in 47 appearances for the club.
Hearts attacker Lawrence Shankland.
This means that the former Dundee United dynamo has averaged a goal or an assist in the top-flight once every 1.52 matches in that time.
The powerful gem, who was described as "different class" by journalist Joel Sked last season, has also won 1.6 aerial duels per game this term and showcased his ability in the air, which was on display against Rangers on Sunday.
Danilo's statistics for Rangers
Since joining from Feyenoord, the 24-year-old forward has scored three goals in seven Premiership matches for the Scottish giants, despite only starting two of those games.
The Brazilian whiz, who has also scored one goal in one League Cup clash, has not offered as much of a presence in the air, in terms of winning flick-ons and holding the ball up, with 1.1 aerial battles won per league outing.
He has been able to score a couple of well-taken headers in the Premiership but Shankland's presence as a target man of sorts to hold the ball up and bring others into play could allow Danilo to focus on his movement around the box to sniff out chances in front of goal.
Therefore, they could form a dream pairing at the top end of the pitch with their respective qualities and Rangers must swoop to sign the Hearts man to replace Dessers or Lammers, who have both failed to offer much in a Gers shirt so far.
Dessers has scored two goals and missed a staggering nine 'big chances' in nine Premiership outings, whilst Lammers has one goal and zero assists in ten league clashes for the club this season.
Both players have been unable to make a consistent impact on the pitch and have been outscored by Danilo at league level, despite the forward starting six fewer matches than both of them have (eight).
Shankland's record in the Premiership since the start of last term suggests that he has the quality to come in and be a dream foil for the Brazilian whilst also being an upgrade on Dessers and Lammers.
Rangers don’t appear to have a shortage of managerial options, and another coach has seemingly expressed his interest over taking the Ibrox vacancy, according to one report.
Who wants the Rangers job?
Those in Glasgow are on the hunt for a new permanent manager after parting ways with Michael Beale on the weekend following a 3-1 Scottish Premiership to Aberdeen. Steven Davis is the man tasked with leading the side on an interim basis, starting on Thursday evening against Aris Limassol in the Europa League. After taking temporary charge, Davis said:“I feel very honoured. The call came out of the blue, I certainly wasn’t expecting it. I would just like to try and repay the trust the club have shown in putting me in this position. Obviously it’s not a position we’d like to be in, we’re disappointed with where we’re at, at this minute in time. But I’m looking forward to the challenge.“It’s been really crazy. I got the phone mail late last night to let me know Michael and his staff were leaving. We then had a chat and they wanted me to come in and lead the team, alongside Alex, Steven and Brian. “I’m delighted to get the opportunity. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. I believe in the group that we’ve got. Things haven’t gone the way we would have liked and we find ourselves in a situation. But I’m sure with myself and the fans pushing each other in the same direction we’ll go on and get some good results.” CEO and chairman John Bennett is leading the process for a new boss, and it looks as if there isn’t a shortage of options who are keen on the role. 90min provided a Rangers manager update in the last 48 hours, looking at a number of candidates who have been linked with the role. The report claims that AZ Alkmaar head coach Pascal Jansen is under consideration for the job and is keen to hold discussions with the club.Meanwhile, Kevin Muscat and Derek McInnes are also targets who are currently in work and it seems as if compensation fees wouldn’t be an issue. Another in-work boss is Bodo/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen, who has reportedly expressed an interest in the role alongside Chris Wilder and Monaco manager Philippe Clement.
Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen.
Who is Kjetil Knutsen?
Knutsen has been linked with a move to Ibrox before, with the Gers making an approach for the Norwegian almost 12 months ago before appointing Beale. The 55-year-old, labelled as an “exciting” and very attack-minded manager by journalist Josh Bunting when linked with AFC Bournemouth, has been in charge of Bodo/Glimt since 2018 and has won 144 games out of a possible 243 fixtures, winning the manager of the year award on three occasions. He also has a 100% win record when coming up against Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic, something which could catch the eye of Rangers officials if discussions are held, so Knutsen may well be another name to watch in the managerial process over the coming days or maybe weeks.
Leeds United have a bright young teen under Daniel Farke who is now wanted by two countries who are keen for him to pledge his international allegiance to them, according to reports.
What's the latest news involving Leeds United?
Last weekend, Leeds United lost their six-match unbeaten streak in the Sky Bet Championship owing to a 3-1 defeat away to Southampton on the South Coast, which has landed the Whites ninth in the league standings with 13 points from their opening nine fixtures.
Speaking on the Square Ball podcast, The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has backed three Leeds United players to find their way back into being selected for the Whites' home clash against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday.
Hay stated: "You fully expect Ampadu to stay in the team, I suppose there is the question does Archie Gray come back in? Does Farke mix it up a little bit there? That aside, is this possibly a good night for Jaidon Anthony to make his debut? I think that could be justified, but I suspect all eyes will be on Rodon, does he come back into the centre of defence? I think the answer to that is surely yes."
In conversation with MOT Leeds News, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed German coach Farke to keep striker Joe Gelhardt around at Elland Road despite his lack of first-team minutes at the club, saying: "I don’t know the situation with him (Gelhardt) and the manager, but I suspect that the manager would be reluctant to let him go until he gets Bamford back fully firing and fully fit, but even then you can’t guarantee it."
Leeds United's Jeremiah Mullen has been called up for international duty with Scotland's Under-21 side and will be available for the young Tartan Army side for their upcoming double header against Hungary and Malta at Fir Park.
Who is Charlie Crew?
According to journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon, Leeds United youngster Charlie Crew is at the centre of a tug of war between Wales and England, with both nations said to be keen for the 17-year-old to nail his colours to the mast on the international stage.
Crew has already been involved at underage level for Wales all the way to the Under-21's and a senior call is believed to be in the offing sooner rather than later for the defensive midfielder, who has already trained with Rob Page's first-team squad. Nevertheless, the English Football Association have taken note of the fact that several of his family members are English, which would also qualify him to represent the Three Lions.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Leeds during the first international break of the campaign, Leeds star Ethan Ampadu, who also plies his trade for Wales, spoke highly of Crew and his ability to fit in seamlessly in senior training, stating: "I have been there and it’s all about the development stage and getting used to playing around within a first team whether that’s here or at Leeds. Obviously I know him and just really excited to see him embrace it."
With Leeds United already offering a platform to youngster Archie Gray over recent months, Crew could be another exciting starlet to be cherry-picked from the conveyor belt of promising talent at Elland Road.
