    WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN MUNICH?

Vincent Kompany's side will be back in action in the Champions League on Wednesday as they take on Celtic in Glasgow.

The signing Xavi has demanded from Man Utd after being contacted by Berrada

A fresh report has outlined a potential successor for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, and they have a major demand to make of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co.

Manchester United in a "terrible position"

A 1-1 draw with Turkish side Fenerbahce left Ten Hag’s side without a win in Europe this season after three attempts, throwing away another lead to draw 1-1. It takes the Red Devils to 12 months without a win in Europe, and their predicament was slammed by Paul Scholes in the wake of their draw in Turkey.

“I thought the last half an hour from both teams was really poor. A draw, you’d probably take it before the game”, the Manchester United legend explained on TNT Sports. “They’re in a terrible position in that Europa League, they’ve got to start winning games soon”.

The result leaves Ten Hag’s side 21st in the Europa League with five games left to play, with the teams that finish between 9th and 24th set to go into a knockout round for a spot in the last 16.

It also leaves Ten Hag under pressure, with the Red Devils offering little show of encouragement and in the bottom half of both the Europa League and the Premier League after a significant chunk of games, and a trip to West Ham on Sunday could be pivotal for the Dutchman’s future. And they are already lining up potential replacements.

Xavi contacted by Manchester United

According to previous reports, Manchester United have already held talks with former Barcelona coach Xavi over the potential role at Old Trafford, with reports from Spain suggesting that club CEO Omar Berrada has led a delegation to Spain to hold talks with the 44-year-old coach.

Now, another report in Spain has claimed that Xavi has “made it clear” that he has one “key request” to take over at Old Trafford; the signing of Barcelona forward Raphinha.

Could Man Utd really sign Raphinha?

Of course, Manchester United do have issues on the right side of attack, with both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho preferring to play on the left side, while Antony’s £86m has been disastrous to the point where the club are reportedly already ready to get rid of the Brazilian should the opportunity arise, with the forward having been handed just 30 minutes of Premier League action this season.

That leaves just Amad Diallo, who is undoubtedly talented but remains a raw gem who cannot be relied upon week in, week out. However, signing Raphinha would be almost impossible. Reports in the summer linked the Red Devils with a move to sign the Brazilian winger, but he has gone on to become one of Hansi Flick’s most important players at Barcelona this season.

The former Leeds United man has registered five goals and seven assists in 10 La Liga games, and grabbed a hat-trick in their most recent Champions League game as his side thrashed Bayern Munich 4-1, taking him to 17 goal contributions in just 13 games this season.

The report adds that “Barça would be willing to let him go, but only if they receive an offer close to 100 million euros” (£86m), a fee that is within Manchester United’s reach but may be one that they baulk at under their new ownership.

If his addition really is a dealbreaker for Xavi, then United and Berrada may be forced to look elsewhere for a successor to their current under-pressure charge.

WHAT NEXT?

While Walker waits for an Italian work permit, life at Manchester City goes on. After a dramatic Champions league defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, having been 2-0 up in the second half, Pep Guardiola's side host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening. City have won three of their last four league games to end a blip that set in in November, but it will be a tough test following the nature of the PSG setback.

Chelsea thought they had the new Hazard, then Boehly sold him for just £19m

The last few years have been difficult for Chelsea, failing to climb to the heights the club reached over the last decade.

The Blues won the Champions League back in 2020/21, but fast-forward just three years, and they are on their third different manager, with a huge turnaround in first-team players under the new ownership of Todd Boehly.

Enzo Maresca is the latest manager to lead the club back to the top end of the Premier League table, with the Italian making a whole host of first-team additions during the recent transfer window.

Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho are just two players brought in to try and improve the club’s forward line as they aim to climb the league table in 2024/25 – pushing them back in the right direction after missing out on Champions League qualification last season.

However, neither are on the level of one talent who captured the hearts of many during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard’s time at Chelsea

Winger Eden Hazard joined the Blues as a fresh-faced 21-year-old back in the summer of 2012, joining in a £32m deal from Ligue 1 side Lille.

The Belgian was an unknown quantity upon his move to West London, but he quickly introduced himself to the Chelsea faithful – becoming a fan-favourite during his time at the Bridge.

He made a staggering 62 appearances in all competitions during his first season for Chelsea, registering 30 goals and assists – making an immediate impact after his big-money transfer.

However, that would be the start of his successful career in the Premier League, going on to register 110 goals for the club over a seven-year spell, with his mesmerising close control and dribbling ability catching the eye of the supporters.

Hazard fired a double in the Europa League final triumph over rivals Arsenal – a game that would prove to be his last for the club – before completing a mammoth £150m deal to join Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2019.

His departure was to be expected after his stellar campaign in 2018/19 which saw him register 31 goal contributions in his 37 league appearances – but the signing of one player with the funds generated from the Belgian’s move allowed the club to land the perfect replacement for the outgoing talent.

The man who was once the perfect Hazard replacement

The January window before Hazard’s departure saw the club fork out £58m for the services of winger Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund before loaning him back to the German side for the remainder of the campaign.

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic.

The Belgian’s departure that summer saw the USA international thrown in at the deep end, tasked with being the club’s replacement for the fan-favourite. Sky Sports even posed the question – is Pulisic the new Hazard?

In his first season for the Blues, he demonstrated glimpses of his quality, registering 19 goal contributions in all competitions during his debut campaign for the club.

His stellar campaign in 2019/20 would be his best at the Bridge, rapidly declining in London, registering just one goal and two assists in 2022/23 – which would be his final year in Chelsea blue.

After just four seasons in the Premier League, Pulisic would swap England for Italy, joining AC Milan in a £19m deal – a move that would allow the 25-year-old to kickstart his career.

He’s since made 55 appearances for the Serie A side, registering 30 goal contributions in the process – looking to be a bargain at his price tag, with Boehly potentially living to regret the sale of his compatriot.

Whilst he failed to live up to expectations at the Bridge, it was evident he needed time to settle before they could reap the rewards of his talent, something which Milan are now the beneficiary of.

Chelsea winger Chrisitan Pulisic picks up a fresh injury in their Premier League clash against Manchester City.

It’s great to see Pulisic reaching his potential, but many Chelsea fans must be wishing it was in their colours, with the American more than capable of being a success in Maresca’s current setup.

Celtic could land dream signing for Idah in swoop for "invisible" £10m star

Celtic will be competing in the quarter-final of the League Cup later this year after they beat Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian 3-1 at Parkhead on Sunday.

The Hoops had already beaten their cup opponents in the top-flight the previous weekend at Easter Road, with goals from Nicolas Kuhn and Callum McGregor securing the win.

Daizen Maeda was tasked with leading the line in the League Cup tie on Sunday and struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes to put his side 2-0 up, before Kuhn scored against them for the second time in as many games to make it 2-0.

One good moment from the second half was the reception the Parkhead crowd gave Adam Idah when the striker came on as a substitute to make his second debut for the club.

The Ireland international recently joined the Bhoys on a permanent deal from Norwich City for a reported fee of £8.5m with a further £1m in add-ons.

He did not get himself a goal in that cameo but it was a little run-out to re-introduce himself to the crowd after his loan spell in Glasgow during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Adam Idah's loan form for Celtic

It is fair to say that Idah did not arrive at Celtic to much fanfare when the club announced his arrival on a loan from the Canaries at the end of the winter transfer window earlier this year.

The 23-year-old attacker had only scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 115 appearances for Norwich as a centre-forward, which may not have filled supporters with bounds of excitement.

However, you should never judge a player before they have played for their new team and Idah quickly showed that his goalscoring record with the Yellows may have been more to do with his situation there, being behind Teemu Pukki and then Josh Sargent in the pecking order, rather than his quality.

The 6 foot 3 marksman produced an assist on his debut as a substitute against Aberdeen, teeing up Kuhn for an equaliser in a 1-1 draw, and then scored twice in a 2-1 win over Hibernian on his full debut in the next match.

As you can see in the table above, Idah went on to rack up eight goals in 15 appearances in the Premiership, despite only starting five of those games.

The Irish forward proved that he can find the back of the net on a regular basis in the Scottish top-flight, using his physicality, his movement, and his quality in front of goal to be a constant threat to opposition defences.

Idah also popped up in big moments for the club with a goal in a 3-3 draw with Rangers and a 90th-minute winner in the League Cup final against the Gers at Hampden Park.

Hopefully, the Norwich academy graduate will now enjoy a successful time at the club on a permanent basis and Brendan Rodgers could make a dream signing for Idah by swooping for one of Celtic's reported transfer targets.

Celtic's interest in MLS magician

Earlier this month, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph claimed that the Hoops have Philadelphia Union central midfielder Daniel Gazdag on their radar.

The reporter claimed that the Bhoys have a list of targets to improve their midfield options, potentially to replace Matt O'Riley if he moves on before the end of the month, and the MLS star was one of three named.

Southampton's Shea Charles and Venezia's Tanner Tessmann are the other two players who are said to be on the shortlist alongside Gazdag.

The summer transfer window slams shut at the end of this month and this means that the Scottish giants have less than two weeks to get a deal done for a new midfielder.

Sky Sports went on to post an update on Celtic's pursuit of Gazdag, as they revealed that Turkish side Trabzonspor have held talks over a potential swoop for the Hungary international.

The outlet added that it would also take an offer in the region of £10m to tempt Union into parting ways with the midfield magician this summer.

Why Daniel Gazdag would be a dream for Adam Idah

The 28-year-old star would be a dream for Idah at Parkhead because he is a quality midfielder who can create chances for his teammates whilst also providing a goal threat.

Gazdag produced 1.4 key passes per game and created four 'big chances' in 19 starts in the MLS this year, having made 1.7 key passes per match and assisted six goals in 35 outings in 2023.

His creativity has been on show in the Leagues Cup over the last month or so, with three assists – and one goal – in five appearances in the competition.

These statistics show that the right-footed whiz has the quality to be an excellent provider from the middle of the park, which means that he could create plenty of chances for Idah to find the back of the net at Parkhead this season.

Another reason why Gazdag would be a dream signing for the Irishman is that he is a terrific goalscorer from midfield, and that could take a lot of the pressure off the striker to be a consistent scorer – particularly in his first full year at the club when patience may be required.

As you can see in the table above, the Hungarian maestro has fired in an eye-catching 29 goals in 56 appearances in the MLS since the start of 2023, from a central midfield position.

This shows that the Union star, who was described as being "invisible" in the way he ghosts into goalscoring positions by manager Jim Curtin, can provide a huge threat in the final third for the Hoops if he can translate that form over to Scotland.

Therefore, Gazdag would be a dream signing for Idah due to the creativity he could bring to the table to create chances for the striker, as well as the pressure the £10m-rated ace could take off the forward with his goalscoring quality.

Powerful youngster leaves West Brom for new club after impressing in academy

West Bromwich Albion have lost a powerful youngster as he seals a move to a new club, according to a recent report.

The Baggies were very busy during the summer months making several changes to the personnel, as they look to go better than they did in the Championship last season.

West Brom fell short in the play-offs last season, so the club’s board made it clear they were going to back Carlos Corberan during the summer as they push to finish in the top six at the very least once again.

Corberan was backed with 11 new signings arriving, their biggest capture being Mikey Johnston from Celtic, who has rejoined the club on a permanent basis after impressing on loan at the Hawthorns last season.

Johnston followed the likes of Callum Styles, Devante Cole, Mason Holgate, and Paddy McNair in joining the Midlands side this summer. The West Brom boss will hope their arrivals can play a significant part in the club reaching the top six and eventually the Premier League.

As well as the arrivals, West Brom also oversaw a few departures, with the most high-profile being striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, who left to join fellow Championship contenders Coventry City. Meanwhile, they also lost midfielder Okay Yokuslu, who moved back to Turkey and signed for Trabzonspor.

Mikey Johnston

The Baggies have made an excellent start to the new Championship season, winning three of their opening four league games, with the only exception being a 0-0 draw with Leeds United. West Brom will be looking to keep up their unbeaten start this weekend when they travel to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth, but before that game, the Championship side have suffered some disappointing transfer news.

Powerful youngster leaves West Brom to join new club

According to the NUFC Blog, Newcastle United have signed young West Brom midfielder Jayden Kouossu. The report states that the Magpies have secured a deal for Charlton Athletic’s Lesecond Yeutembip, and they have also beaten a host of Premier League clubs to the signature of Kouossu.

It is reported that Kouossu has chosen to join Newcastle after impressing on trial with them, despite also being handed the opportunity to do the same at Chelsea and Fulham.

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

Kouossu, who is described as being a “powerful midfielder,” can operate as a number six or as a number eight. The midfielder was born in Italy, Milan, but moved to England at an early age. Kouossu is eligible for under-14 football, but the young gem is said to have been impressing in West Brom’s under-15s and under-16s.

The midfielder will now join up with Newcastle’s under-15s, with the report stating there is a chance he will be fast-tracked to their under-16s due to his recent progression. Kouossu will be hoping the move from The Hawthorns to St. James’ Park allows him to grow more as a footballer, and his development will be one to watch, even if West Brom won't reap the rewards.

Alan Igglesden raises funds for Professional Cricketers' Trust after two-decade battle with brain tumour

The family of Alan Igglesden, the former Kent and England seamer, has released a film to raise funds and awareness for the Professional Cricketers’ Trust, 22 years after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour that has dominated his life since 1999.Igglesden, who was a mainstay of Kent’s bowling line-up between 1986 and 1998, claimed 693 wickets across first-class and List A cricket, eight of which came during his seven appearances for England, including three Tests between 1989 and 1994.In 1999, one year after making his final appearance at Canterbury and at just 34 years of age, Igglesden suffered an epileptic fit whilst playing minor counties cricket for Berkshire. An MRI scan revealed a tumour the size of a junior cricket ball, and he would never play professional cricket again. In the years since his diagnosis, Igglesden has been receiving pioneering treatment, which has shrunk the tumour to the size of a golf ball, and for a time he was able to teach sport at schools in both Kent and Apperley Bridge near Leeds, close to where he now lives with his wife Liz, and seven-year old daughter Beth.He suffered setbacks in his recovery in 2009, and again in 2015 and 2016, when the tumour showed signs of resuming its growth. But the family’s life was turned upside down in 2018, when he suffered the first of two major strokes in the space of three years, which have left him increasingly unable to speak or walk.

“You just don’t know when this stuff is going to happen,” said Liz Igglesden, speaking to the Professional Cricketers’ Trust. “None of this is to do with lifestyle, he got a brain tumour even though he never drank, smoked or drove badly. He got a brain tumour because he got dealt a rubbish hand, then he had a stroke, then another stroke. We’re waiting for lightning to strike twice now because he’s been that unlucky.”It sounds like every insurance company advert ever, but to have two massive strokes when all you’ve been preparing for is a brain tumour, it just sweeps your life away in seconds.”He’d be stuck in his room all day, every day. When he first came back from hospital and was quite immobile, he just didn’t leave his room.”That arm that everyone used to cheer when it bowled, to now not be able to raise it or hold a drink, what does that do to your head?”Igglesden has retained his optimistic outlook on life despite his setbacks, and has used his story to raise over £300,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity, the largest dedicated fundraiser of research into brain tumours globally, and an organisation of which he is a patron. And though the impact of his strokes mean he is now receiving end-of-life care, he has committed to undertaking the “5k May” challenge, with the support of his family, to raise further funds for the Professional Cricketers’ Trust, so that it can help other players in the future in the same way that it has helped him.”When everything is really hard, the Professional Cricketers’ Trust just makes everything more bearable and their support and sense of family and help just means we can carry on,” Liz added. “We’re really, really grateful for everything.”For more information on Iggy’s 5k May challenge and how you can support the players’ charity, visit his #5ferIggy JustGiving page.

Australian seamer to remain with compatriot Labuschagne as Welsh club’s overseas players for next year

ESPNcricinfo staff09-Jul-2021Michael Neser, the Australian seamer, has signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Glamorgan until at least the end of the 2023 season, joining compatriot Marnus Labuschagne as the club’s overseas players for next year.Labuschagne, Neser’s Queensland team-mate, has one year remaining on his current contract. Neser, meanwhile has been a revelation since joining the Welsh county this year after his planned stint at Surrey in 2020 was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In just four LV= Insurance County Championship matches, Neser has taken 19 wickets at an average of 14.89, His match figures of 7 for 99, which included 4 for 53 in Lancashire’s second innings, was instrumental in Glamorgan’s six-wicket victory in Cardiff early last month. He also took a five-wicket haul in the draw with Yorkshire in May. The 31-year-old Neser has 222 career first-class wickets at an average of 24.76 and he has scored 2,010 runs at 25.12.”I’ve absolutely loved playing in Wales this season and it was a no-brainer to commit my future to the club,” Neser said. “When I was first approached by Glamorgan, Marnus said what a fantastic place this was and how welcoming the people were and that’s exactly how I’ve found it.”As a team we’ve played some really good cricket this season and there’s plenty of young talent which bodes well for the future. Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz scored a combined 51 goals between them in all competitions last season, but Gabriel Martinelli suffered a slight dip in form towards the end of 2023/2024 and Gabriel Jesus endured a stop-start season, thanks partly to injury problems.

Many other names are continuing to be linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium alongside the likes of Williams and Sane, with Arsenal also admirers of Wolves winger Pedro Neto, who has been described as a good option to back up Saka on that side.

Pedro-Neto-Wolves

“I don’t know if Pedro Neto would walk into the first team of either Arsenal or Tottenham, but he can certainly help them as a squad player," said ex-Premier League star William Gallas.

"He would be a good option for either club to have on the bench. When you play against a player like him, as a defender, you know that he will give you a game. Over the last few years, he’s definitely shown what he can do. He scores goals and is always a threat."

While he would be a brilliant player to call upon, when considering his excellent record of assists last season, concerns also surround Neto's torrid injury record and reports he'll cost as much as £60 million.

Arsenal in negotiations with agent of Federico Chiesa

According to Italian newspaper La Stampa, via Tutto Juve, an astute alternative in terms of value could be Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. The Italy international, who's drawn comparisons to Henry, is capable of playing centre-forward and as a second striker.

He's valued at around £25 million by the Old Lady as he enters the final season of his contract, with the £150,000-per-week forward now subject to advances of interest from Arsenal.

La Stampa claim Arsenal are in negotiations with Chiesa's agent, Fali Ramadani, who is trying to gather who will come forward with a concrete proposal to sign the 51-cap star.

Ramadani is talking to other elite Premier League sides about his client, according to this report, so it appears the representative is attempting to seal a move to England for Chiesa.

Leicester keen on “exceptional” £8m-rated gem who’d be Tielemans 2.0

It must feel an awful long time ago for Leicester City fans when they now consider their side's unbelievable past exploits, with the East Midlands underdogs lifting the FA Cup and Premier League aloft in quick succession in what proved to be a golden period to be a Foxes fan.

Now, supporters packed into the King Power Stadium this campaign to come will just hope they can stay afloat in the top flight, away from their previous grand achievements, with Steve Cooper now at the helm tasked with ensuring relegation doesn't happen.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.

Leicester could look to turn back the clock to their unbelievable day out to Wembley in the FA Cup final, however, with this potential signing in through the door, who might well end up being the newly promoted club's next Youri Tielemans in the making.

Leicester City's search for a midfielder

According to a report by Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, as relayed by Sport Witness, Leicester hold 'concrete interest' in Royal Antwerp gem Mandela Keita this summer, as the midfield ranks look to be bolstered by Cooper.

Both Rennes and Fiorentina are also noted as being further interested parties going after the 22-year-old star, who even has a senior cap for the Belgium national team next to his name now, after an impressive individual campaign for his current employers.

Mandela Keita

It could take a bid of around £8m – as per his current estimated market value, according to Football Transfers – for a move to take place though, with Leicester having to splash the cash to land their desired target.

Why Keita can be Tielemans 2.0

Tielemans was once also a promising talent plying his trade in the Jupiler Pro League before Leicester swooped in, resulting in the now Aston Villa man becoming a key first-team performer for the Foxes, with his long-range strike against Chelsea back in 2021 enabling Leicester to upset the odds and lift the FA Cup.

Keita isn't quite as forceful when it comes to helping out in attack, but he could go on to become an established member of Cooper's first team all the same in England, much like the former Anderlecht man managed under previous managers at the King Power.

Keita's tenacity and energy from the middle of the park has been an effective calling card for Antwerp to utilise, however, with the goal above all the in-demand Belgian's own work, before allowing his fortunate teammate to simply tap home.

The 22-year-old would only pick up two goal contributions all of last season away from this clip, but his battling nature will be of use to Leicester all the same, and Keita could even end up striking up an effective midfield duo with Wilfried Ndidi if a deal is clinched.

Whilst Ndidi would look to get on the scoresheet, Keita would be more than content with being a disruptive presence in a more holding role, as can be seen glancing at the table above, with an unbelievable 5.9 total duels won on average last season playing in his native country.

But, his assuredness on the ball – away from trying to break up play – could also see him perform much like Tielemans operated when still pulling on a Foxes strip, with the Villa midfielder bowing out from the King Power with an 82% pass accuracy per Premier League contest during the 2022-23 season.

Labelled as being an "exceptional" talent by U23 football scout Antonio Mango after he won his first cap for his nation, Keita looks to be nearing a major move soon, and could really progress his game like Tielemans managed if purchased by Leicester.

Leicester must cash in on Rodgers signing who earns more than Ndidi & Soule

Steve Cooper will be preparing to offload a number of Leicester City players to balance the books.
